Remembering Dennis Boyd

From Robla School District Superintendent Ruben Reyes:

It is with a heavy heart to inform you that Robla School District Board Member Dennis Boyd died on July 26 at age 73 after a brief illness.

Dennis was completing his 20th year on the Robla School Board, and was a passionate and tireless advocate for Robla students and their families. Being both service- and community-minded, Dennis has played an active role in so many District activities and initiatives.  Beginning in 2009, Dennis served as a volunteer tutor at Reading Partners Bell Avenue for 10 years. He was actively involved in the Rotary Club of North Sacramento, and always found ways for their service projects to positively impact our schools, students and Robla community.

Dennis was also passionate about responding to employee, parent and community issues, which helped to ensure that the Robla School Board was responsive to our community’s needs.

A memorial for Dennis is still in the planning stages.  When the family has notified us of the date, we will be sure to pass that along.  If you have any stories, pictures, or memories that you would like to share about Dennis, please send an email to [email protected].

During his life, Dennis inspired many others to serve children and the community in the way he did, and he leaves a lasting legacy in the positive ways he influenced Robla students’ lives.  According to Dennis, when he was nominated as California State Senator Richard Pan’s Unsung Heroes in 2017: “If there's one thing I could do to help make my community better it would be to instill how we can make such a difference by recognizing some area we have that we can offer to help someone else move forward. We all have busy lives, but we can all find a way to take out a little time for others. We don't have to start and build something new. Find your strength. You won't have to search far to find someone, some organization to help lead you in that direction. There are many rewards to reap including finding ways to strengthen yourself. But knowing you've helped someone and your community is most rewarding.”

We will miss Dennis greatly as a board member, Robla family member, and friend.
